Rapid advances in financial technologies are fundamentally transforming the structure, functioning, and governance of global financial systems. Innovations such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, digital currencies, decentralized finance, and embedded financial services are reshaping traditional financial intermediation, enhancing efficiency, and expanding access, while simultaneously introducing new forms of risk and regulatory complexity. This narrative review examines the dual dynamics of technological disruption and regulatory challenges in the context of future financial technologies. The study synthesizes theoretical perspectives, emerging technological developments, and evolving regulatory frameworks to provide an integrated understanding of how innovation and regulation interact within modern financial ecosystems. It highlights key regulatory challenges, including regulatory lag, systemic risk, data governance, cross-border fragmentation, and accountability gaps, which are amplified by the speed and global reach of digital financial innovation. The review further explores adaptive regulatory responses, such as technology-neutral regulation, RegTech and SupTech adoption, co-regulatory models, and global coordination strategies, as mechanisms to balance innovation with financial stability and consumer protection. By identifying critical research gaps and policy implications, the study contributes to ongoing academic and policy debates on sustainable financial innovation. The findings underscore the need for forward-looking, adaptive, and coordinated regulatory frameworks capable of evolving alongside technological change to ensure resilient, inclusive, and trustworthy financial systems.
